Autosport 2020 Show Highlights

And just like that, it’s gone again! The 2020 Autosport Show marks the first of many automotive shows WDA will attend this year, and as well as being one of the key events in our calendars it’s also one of the most enjoyable we attend. Kicking off with two days of trade-only visitors, then opening up to the public for days 3 and 4, the show sure does pull in some footfall.

With two days packed full of meetings with existing clients, and some exciting new partnership discussions, the WDA team really were working at full-throttle down at the show this year. However, we still managed to take a good look around and have some very informative discussions with the industry’s brightest minds, see some of the stunning exhibition stands, take in the awesome cars featuring the latest technology and get the lowdown on a host of breaking automotive industry developments.

After being at the show for both trade days, and walking nearly 100,000 collective steps (according to apple!), it’s safe to say we were truly exhausted by Friday – but it was definitely worth it! Here’s some of our highlights…

Autosport 2020 Show debut for Formula E

This year was the first time Formula E exhibited at the Autosport International Show. With an ever increasing industry focus on electric vehicles, this was the perfect opportunity for them to showcase their future vision of motorsport. On their stand was a stunning Union Jack wrapped Gen2 car (see main image above) which looks fast standing still, and on the move is capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in just 2.8-seconds and go on to a top speed of 280km/h.  If you’ve never seen these amazing cars on the track, we urge you to do so – the next time Formula E will be in the UK is 25-26th July at the ExCeL London for a unique indoor/outdoor circuit.

Autosport 2020 Show deranged automotive

A step above the rest: Deranged

Another first appearance was made this year by Team Deranged and they certainly made it a memorable debut. The stand was literally a step above the rest at the show, with a Mercedes X-Class nicknamed ‘The Hulk’, displayed on top of a container which you could see from the other side of the hall. A great example of utilising relatively cost effective materials and structures in an innovative way to create real impact and stand out from the show noise. Inside the container, there was a range of Deranged merchandise available, and more custom trucks displayed on the stand outside the shop.

70 Years Of Autosport

The headline display at Autosport International 2020 was a 70 year celebration of some of the most iconic and important motorsport cars of the past seven decades. This included 2 of WDA’s favourite cars of all time – the Gulf 917 endurance Porsche, and probably the most famous motorsport livery of all time featured on the legendary Lotus 79. There was also the Le Mans winning Jaguar C-type and Maserati 250F F1 winner; and from more recent times the awesome Ford Sierra RS500 touring car, and Audi’s tour de tech force, the diesel powered R10 – at the time the most expensive project ever undertaken by Audi Sport.

Autosport 2020 Show Bentley Eibach

Springing into action with Eibach

Eibach manufactures the springs specified by WDA client MSS suspension, who WDA helped to relaunch from a standing start to winning the SEMA Global Media Award over in Vegas – in just 2 months last year. Eibach’s Autosport 2020 Show stand featured a Bentley Continental GT3 racer owned by Team Parker Racing.

MS-RT

WDA client Ford WRC revealed the new MS-RT (M-Sport Road Technology) 2020 car at this year’s Autosport Show. It was great to see some past and present Ford WRC cars on display liveried with the MS-RT branding WDA devised. To discover more on how we evolved the original Ford M-Sport identity to create a brand that is today utilised across both the road going ranges of performance cars and vans, click here.

Engineering Focus

WDA spent more time than ever in the engineering halls this year, undertaking some preliminary research and competitor analysis for a new Automotive and Aerospace Engineering client, Status Metrology, who are already gearing up for their Autosport debut in 2021. Status have reported one of their most successful years since WDA took over the Company’s Digital Marketing in January 2019, and we look forward to helping them make the most of AS21!
