The Top 5 Recent Must-See Car Reveals

The automotive world is extremely busy right now, manufacturers are revealing their newest machines left, right and centre! This article covers everything you need to know about the new Bugatti, Pagani, Koenigsegg, Ferrari and Mustang…

Bugatti W16 Mistral

The newest member of the Bugatti family is a tribute to the legendary W16 engine. The Mistral will be the final production vehicle that is powered by Bugatti’s iconic 8.0 litre, 16-cylinder engine and only 99 will be made, they have already sold out too. Unlike anything else that Bugatti has produced in the modern Chiron era, the Mistral has no roof, finally a classic Bugatti Roadster!

“Over 40% of all Bugatti vehicles ever created have been open-top in design. In the Chiron era there had, to date, been no roadster, so the introduction of the W16 Mistral continues this legacy, driven by enormous demand from our clients for an all-new way to experience the mighty performance of our iconic engine.” – Mate Rimac, Bugatti Rimac CEO.

The Mistral costs a whopping 5 million, so besides the W16 engine, what exactly do you get for your money? The Mistral goes much further than the last open-top Bugatti, the Veyron Grand Sport. The design and engineering are completely bespoke, with the body being reworked extensively. You will notice elements from lots of the previous Bugatti fan favourites, like the visor sunscreen that you will see on the La Voiture Noire and the classic horse shoe-grille from the Chiron. The tail lights are unique on this model and are a subtle nod to the general X theme on the Bolide. They also have a functional purpose, venting the side oil coolers through ducts that connect the negative space to the side radiators. The interior is typical of Bugatti, simple but very modern looking. Like other models, there are no screens to try and counter the rapid development of modern technology.

In terms of performance, the W16 in the Mistral has been tuned to produce an enormous 1,578hp, with a claimed top speed of 261mph. These numbers could give the Mistral the title of the fastest Roadster in the world! But we will have to wait to confirm that, as the new roofless Hennessey Venom F5 has a rumoured top speed of 300mph+.

Pagani Utopia

It’s not very often that we get a new Pagani. In fact, in the manufacturer’s 30-year history, since being founded in 1992, we have only ever seen 2 models; the Zonda and the Huayra. Pagani prefers quality to quantity, which is why it has taken them 11 years to announce a new model, the Utopia.

And they did not disappoint, the new Utopia is a work of art. It might look fairly similar to the Huayra, but it is entirely new. The company founder, Horacio Pagani, set three targets for the new model: simplicity, lightness, and the pleasure of driving. The option of a hybridized system was discounted, instead sticking with the twin-turbo 6.0 litre V12 that was used in the Huayra, producing 852hp and 811 pound-feet of torque sent directly to the rear wheels. The Utopia is extremely lightweight at just 1,280 kg, as a result of being made with Carbo-Titanium, a high strength metal that is patented by Pagani. Horacio has also hinted that this car will have the option of a manual gearbox and automatic transmission, we would hope that the majority of the 99 owners opt for the manual!

The exterior of the Pagani Utopia is special, but the interior is something else. The build quality and luxury in here would make Lamborghinis and Ferraris look cheap. The Utopia’s interior is entirely analog, with the only screen being the tiny one inserted in-between the speedo and rev counter. The steering wheel, pedals and gear shifter are all milled from individual aluminium blocks. The shifter is entirely exposed, letting you see the inside of the seven speed manual transmission, a solid reason by itself to opt for the manual.

Ferrari Purosangue

Ferrari has just revealed the Purosangue, it’s first ever 4-door 4-seater car, that they insist IS NOT an SUV. In the real world, it certainly is an SUV, and is Ferrari’s answer to the hugely successful Lamborghini Urus.

The Purosangue is powered by a 6.5 litre naturally aspirated V12, that produces 725hp and 716Nm of torque, launching it from 0 – 60mph in 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 193mph. This performance doesn’t come cheap, in fact it will set you back at least £300,000 if you want one. The name Purosangue means ‘thoroughbred’ in Italian, which suits the car, as this is the only Ferrari you can currently buy that comes with the signature naturally aspirated V12 engine.

The design is typical of Ferrari, even though this is an SUV, it is still unmistakably a Ferrari. The headlights are very similar to the SP1 Monza’s and the rear end looks a bit like the Roma’s. The front and rear doors open in opposite directions, creating a massive opening when all 4 are opened at the same time. Overall it is definitely unique, in a good way, and will for sure catch your eye and turn your head if it were to pass you by on the roads.

Koenigsegg CC850

The Koenigsegg CC850 is an extremely unique car, it debuted during the August 2022 Monterey Car Week and is a nod to the manufacturer’s first production car, the CC8S. The car was originally limited to 50 units, but has since been increased to 70 due to high demand. It’s not hard to see why either, there is a lot going on with this car.

“The CC850 is an homage to the single most meaningful car in Koenigsegg history,” said Christian von Koenigsegg. “The CC8S put us on the map and made us successful – and celebrating 20 years of production, alongside my 50th birthday, felt like the right time to reveal the CC850 to appreciate our roots.”

In terms of performance, the CC850 is powered by a 5.0 litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 1,385hp, the weight is also 1,385 kg giving it a 1:1 power to weight ratio. The CC850 will operate at its highest level of performance on E85 fuel, but will also happily run with the standard fuel at gas stations, however the performance figures will be significantly lower. The top speed is around 242mph, a 0 – 60mph time of around 3.3 seconds with the engine redlining at around 8,500rpm. Overall it’s impressive, as it usually is with Koenigsegg.

The transmission on this car is unlike any other. The CC850 uses a version of the 9-speed transmission from the Koenigsegg Jesko, but with a new Engage Shifter System (ESS) that makes the automatic transmission transform into a 6-speed manual. The ESS gearbox has a clutch pedal like a traditional manual, but it’s by-wire, and instead of a single clutch, the ESS has seven. These clutches handle the gear selections and eliminate the need for shifter forks and synchros. It also doesn’t have a flywheel, so the engine connects directly to the transmission. It’s hard to explain, so if you still don’t get it, here is a video showing how it works. In simple terms, you can drive it in automatic or in manual whilst still having the traditional gear knob, it’s a very clever system that we have never seen before.

Ford Mustang

The iconic Ford Mustang is back for its seventh generation, and it looks meaner than ever. Everyone will be glad to hear that it isn’t electric! The heart of the Mustang is still the classic 5.0 litre V8, however there is also the option of the 2.3 litre eco-boost 4 cylinder. Ford claims both engines have been improved to produce more power and be more efficient. Performance figures haven’t been released yet, but the V8 version is tipped to launch from 0 – 60mph in around 4 seconds and top out at more than 170mph.

In terms of design, Ford has, for the first time, differentiated the V8 version from the eco-boost. The four-cylinder gets less aggressive styling, including a new grille inspired by the 1964 Mustang and a pair of slimmer headlights, that feature new tri-bar LED daylight-running lights. The V8 gets a larger diffuser and quad tailpipes in place of the eco-boost’s dual pipes. In the interior, the base model gets twin screens, but the higher trims get a new ‘continuous’ screen made up of a 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster and a larger, 13.2 inch infotainment screen running Ford’s latest Sync 4 software. Ford hopes that this new software, and the new styling, will attract younger buyers.
